Official: Jaguar’s Electric GT Car To Be Called “Type 01”

Jaguar has announced that their long-awaited electric GT car, called the Type 01, will make its official debut later this year.

It should be remembered that this car was announced at the end of 2024, with the controversial Type 00 concept.

The company states that the name ‘Type 01’ comes with three significant elements. The “Type” prefix emphasizes the new car’s place in a line of “legendary predecessors” stretching back to the racing C-Type that won Le Mans in 1951, all the way to the D-Type, E-Type and F-Type models. Each of these cars, Jaguar says, was celebrated for combining “an engaging drive with deep reserves of power, plus refinement and composure” – attributes it wants the new electric car to share.

Also, the “0” represents its zero-emission powertrain, and the “1” denotes its status as the first Jaguar of a new era.”

Jaguar CEO Roddon Glover has previously hinted that the car will cost around £120,000 and that customers will be getting “the most powerful Jaguar ever”.

Glover added that the car “will drive really well”. He also hinted at going against the grain, saying, “There aren’t many electric vehicles that are really fun to drive.”

The center of attention is still the new look of Jaguar and the controversial rebranding, which the company has been defending for the last year and a half. Glover said, “We have to create a car that has drama, that has scale, that has proportion… that creates a real visceral reaction when people look at it.”

The concept certainly did that, and Glover noted that seeing the car live is a lot different from seeing it on your phone. As he explained, when seen live, people can “understand the proportions, the drama, and the scale of the vehicle”.

Glover went on to say that the United States is likely to become its biggest market and that the “vast majority” of customers are “positive” about the design. However, he noted that this comes after he had “time to explain and really go through why he looks the way he does”.

For now, it is known that it is an electric GT with four doors, about 520 cm long, with a wheelbase of about 320 cm, weighing about 2500-2700 kg and with wheels from 21 to 23 inches long.

Three electric motors are expected, with up to around 1,000 hp and 1,366 Nm, plus loads of tech, including rear-wheel steering and air suspension.

Three driving modes should also be mentioned: Rain/Ice/Snow, Comfort and Dynamic.

The range with batteries of about 120 kWh will be more than 400 miles (more than 640 kilometers), and it is also mentioned that 15 minutes of charging will be enough for a range of 320 kilometers.

Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h will be less than 3.5 seconds, and the top speed will be around 250 km/h.

Orders for the Jaguar Type 01 will open in the second half of 2026, and the first cars will be delivered to customers in the first half of next year.
